Box Score

WILMINGTON, NC - Hoggard fought hard on Senior Night, but came up just short. The Vikings fell 63-53 to New Hanover on Thursday night at James Hebbe Gym. Hoggard trailed by just one point heading into the fourth quarter, but was outscored 20-11 the rest of the way. Senior guard Tyler Thayer led the Vikings with 14 points, all of which came in the second half.

Hoggard (16-6, 7-3) led by four and had the ball a couple of times in the second half but could never extend the lead against the fifth-ranked Wildcats. Much of that was due to poor shooting from the free throw line where the Vikings made just 14 of 25 attempts. Hoggard also turned the ball over 17 times and allowed New Hanover to shoot 51 percent from the floor.

Trevor Singleton had 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks for Hoggard, while Joe O’Donnell added 10 points. Darius Plummer had nine points and eight rebounds.

Earlier on Thursday, the Hoggard JV team (12-6, 7-3) concluded its season with a 47-38 win at New Hanover. It was the third time this season that the Vikings defeated the Wildcats.

Hoggard will now enter post-season play. The Vikings are the #2 seed in next week’s Mideastern Conference Tournament and will play on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at Brogden Hall against either Laney or New Bern.
