Hoggard holds on to beat New Bern

WILMINGTON, NC - Junior guards Joe O’Donnell and Christian Poveromo combined for
32 points to lead Hoggard to a 74-66 win over New Bern on Tuesday night at James
Hebbe Gym. The win snapped a two game losing streak and put the Vikings back in sole
possession of second place in the Mideastern Conference.
Hoggard (14-5, 5-2) had six players score at least seven points in a game they played
without starting forward Trevor Singleton, who averages 12.3 points and 7.7 rebounds
per game.
The Vikings had 16 assists on their 25 field goals and turned the ball over just
six times in the game. New Bern (5-12, 0-7) was able to stay in the game by connecting
on 11 three-pointers.
O’Donnell had 19 points and four assists while Poveromo had a career-high 13 points
and three steals.
Senior Darius Plummer had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds while senior
Tyler Thayer added 10 points.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Hoggard JV team overcame an 11-point fourth quarter deficit
to win 56-49 in overtime at New Bern. The Viking JV team is now 10-5 overall and
5-2 in the conference.
Both teams will be back in action on Friday against J.H. Rose. The Varsity team
will play at home at 7:30 while the JV’s travel to Greenville for a 6:00 tip.
