Box Score

WILMINGTON - Hoggard led for almost 27 minutes on Tuesday night in James Hebbe Gym. But  just like they did 11 days ago against Millbrook, the Vikings were unable to hang on and fell 67-61 to the Sturt Sabres from Australia.  Hoggard placed four players in double figures for the first time this season.

Hoggard (3-2) jumped out to a 9-1 lead midway through the first quarter.  Sturt, who had beaten North Cross (VA) 91-53 on Monday night, would respond however and close the quarter on a 9-3 run to pull within two.  The Vikings were able to maintain their lead throughout the second quarter and led at halftime for the fifth time in five games this season.

After Sturt scored the first six points of the second half to grab a one point lead, Hoggard responded again and led until midway through the fourth quarter.  The Vikings led 55-50 and had the ball with just over four minutes remaining in the game but were unable to extend the lead due to poor decision-making on the offensive end.  Sturt went on a 10-0 run and Hoggard was unable to recover.

Lawson Ahrens led Hoggard with 15 points while Stilman White added 14 points and six assists.  Justin Leitch had 12 points and Darius Plummer scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Hoggard will be back in action when another Australian team visits Hebbe Gym on Thursday night at 7:30.

The JV team closed the pre-holiday portion of their schedule with a 46-37 loss to the Sturt Sabres.  Joe O’Donnell led Hoggard with 10 points as the Viking JV’s fell to 3-5 on the season.
