Hoggard falls again in overtime

WILMINGTON, NC - For the second time this season, Hoggard blew a fourth quarter lead and lost in overtime. This time, it was a 52-47 loss at home to New Bern in a Mideastern Conference game on Friday night. The Vikings led by eight points in the fourth before New Bern rallied to tie the game and then control the overtime.
Hoggard (8-6, 1-1) led by three points at the end of both the first and second quarters, six points at the end of the third quarter, and eight points at 34-26 with six minutes remaining in the game. New Bern (10-4, 1-1) then went on a 9-0 run over two minutes to take the lead. Hoggard battled back and had a chance to win it in regulation, but missed the front end of a one-and-one with 1.7 seconds remaining.
New Bern controlled the overtime, never trailing in picking up their first Mideastern Conference win since rejoining the league this season.
Hoggard shot just 31 percent from the floor, made just four of 22 three-pointers, committed 18 turnovers, and had nine shots blocked.
Lawson Ahrens led the Vikings with 17 points. Darius Plummer added 9 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals.
Hoggard will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Greenville to take on J.H. Rose.
The Vikings JV’s evened their record at 5-5 and moved to 2-0 in the Mideastern Conference with a 52-50 win at New Bern on Friday. Joe O’Donnell led the way with 13 points while Michael Williams added 11 points. |
