Hoggard falters late against Millbrook

WILMINGTON - Millbrook used a couple of late second half runs to escape Hebbe Gym with a 64-56 win on Friday night.  The Wildcats led by just two points with 44 seconds left but scored the final six points of the game for the win.  Tyrell Tate led Millbrook with 27 points, 13 of which came in the decisive fourth quarter.

 

Millbrook (3-1) was able to do most of it’s damage due to their pressure defense and their relentless attack on the offensive boards.  The Wildcats forced 14 Hoggard turnovers which led directly to 22 points.  They also grabbed 21 offensive rebounds.

 

Hoggard (1-1) extended their four point halftime lead to seven at 33-26 with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.  But Millbrook would outscore the Vikings 16-6 during the remainder of the quarter to take a three-point lead heading into the final period.  Hoggard was able to grab the lead back at 50-48 with just over four minutes remaining before Millbrook answered with a three-point play that gave them back the lead that they would never relinquish.

 

Stilman White led a trio of Hoggard double-figure scorers with 16 points.  Lawson Ahrens knocked in 14 points while Darius Plummer added a career-high 12 points.  Justin Leitch grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.

 

Hoggard will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m.

 

The JV team fell to 1-4 on the season with a 47-40 loss to Millbrook.  Joe O’Donnell led the way with 13 points for the Vikings.
