Hoggard defeats Jacksonville
December 8, 2009
WILMINGTON - After trailing 12-5 at the end of the first quarter, Hoggard outscored Jacksonville 50-34 the rest of the way for a 55-46 win on Tuesday night in James Hebbe Gym. Junior guard Stilman White led the Vikings with 14 points and seven assists while sophomore Darius Plummer added 10 points, seven rebounds, and five steals.
Hoggard (2-1) committed 19 turnovers in the game, but forced 22 errors by the Cardinals. They were also able to balance out their poor effort on the boards with good field goal percentage defense. The Vikings gave up 16 offensive rebounds but held Jacksonville to just 38 percent shooting for the game.
Junior Lawson Ahrens had 12 points while sophomore Drew Combs added 9 points for the Vikings, who will be back in action on Friday night at Topsail.
The Hoggard JV team improved to 2-4 on the season with a 57-53 win over Jacksonville. Sophomore Nick Stauble had a career-high 23 points in the Viking win. |
