Hoggard falls short in title game
December 23, 2009
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Easley shot 77 percent from the floor in the first half and Hoggard played most of the game without their leading scorer as the Vikings fell 62-55 in the Championship Game of the 2009 Shootout by the Sea in North Myrtle Beach on Wednesday night.
Stilman White, Hoggard’s leading scorer at 17.5 points per game, was injured just under four minutes into the game making a layup that were his only points of the game. Easley was able to build a 38-25 halftime lead by connecting on 17 of their 22 first half shots.
Hoggard (6-3) opened the second half strong and cut the lead to 42-36 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Easley (10-2) responded with a 10-1 run that pushed the lead back to 15 points and denied Hoggard the chance to become the first two-time winner of the Shootout.
Lawson Ahrens had 16 points to lead the Vikings. Drew Combs and Darius Plummer had 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Hoggard will be back in action on Monday in the 16th Annual Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament presented by WWAY-TV3. The Vikings will play Westover at 7:00 p.m. in Trask Coliseum on the campus of UNC Wilmington. |
