Box Score

WILMINGTON, NC - Hoggard trailed 52-48 with 2:23 remaining in the game on Wednesday and it looked as if the Vikings would once again suffer a loss with a fourth quarter collapse.  But Hoggard scored the final seven points of the game to defeat Annapolis Area Christian School 55-52 in the seventh place game of the Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament.

In the rest of the action on the tournament’s final day, Pender defeated Laney 63-50 in the fifth place game, New Hanover beat Ashley 52-42 in the third place game, and North Mecklenburg defeated Westover 60-49 in the championship game.

Bernard Sullivan of North Meck was named the MVP.  He was joined on the All-Tournament team by Addison Spruill of Pender, Cole Daley and Detwon Rogers of New Hanover, and Christian Russell of Westover.

Hoggard (7-5) snapped a three game losing streak with their win as they head into Mideastern Conference play next week.  They were led by Justin Leitch and Darius Plummer who each scored 11 points.  Jovon Genwright and Lawson Ahrens each scored eight points in a balanced Viking attack that saw nine players score.

Hoggard will open conference play on Tuesday with a home game against Laney at 7:30 p.m.
