Vikings get win in first road game

HAMPSTEAD - For the fourth time in four games, Hoggard placed three players in double figures as they defeated Topsail 57-47 in their first road game of the season on Friday night.  Sophomore Drew Combs made all seven of his fourth quarter free throw attempts to help seal the win for the Vikings, who moved to 3-1 on the season.   Combs finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and no turnovers in 22 minutes.

 

Hoggard never trailed and led by as much as 13 points.  Despite being outrebounded 40-30, the Vikings were able to hold off the taller Pirates by committing just 11 turnovers and holding Topsail to just 33.9 percent shooting from the floor.  Hoggard also hit seven three-pointers and outscored Topsail 16-6 at the free throw line.

 

Stilman White led Hoggard with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Lawson Ahrens added 12 points and Tyler Thayer scored a career-high nine points.

 

The Vikings will play host to two teams from Australia next week.

 

The JV team also won on Friday, defeating Topsail 47-29.  Joe O’Donnell led Hoggard with 13 points.
