GREENVILLE, NC - Hoggard played the 1,042nd basketball game in school history on Friday night and managed to set a school record for the fewest points ever scored in a game in a 38-27 loss to the Rose Rampants in Greenville.  The loss was the fifth in the last seven games for the Vikings after they began the season 6-2.

Hoggard (8-7, 1-2) trailed 17-8 with four minutes remaining in the first half and managed to tie the game with a 9-0 run that carried a minute into the second half.  The Vikings had the ball four times with a chance to extend the run and take the lead, but were unable to knock down a shot.

Rose (6-8, 3-0) took a 23-19 lead into the fourth quarter, but a George Richardson tip-in pulled the Vikings once again to within two with just over six minutes remaining.  Hoggard missed several wide-open shots over the next five minutes, however, and Rose went on a 15-4 run to seal the victory.

Hoggard shot just 24 percent from the floor, eight percent from three point range, and attempted just six free throws in the game.  They were also outrebounded 37-24.

Drew Combs led Hoggard with 10 points.

The Viking JV team managed to keep the day from being a complete disappointment with a 61-58 comeback win over Rose in Hebbe Gym.  The JV’s were down 51-41 with four minutes remaining before closing the game on a 20-7 run.  The win was the fifth in six games for the JV’s as they remained a perfect 3-0 in Mideastern Conference play.  Joe O’Donnell led the way with 21 points.
