Slow start once again hurts Vikings in loss

WILMINGTON, NC - New Hanover shot 76 percent from the floor in the first half while Hoggard shot just 19 percent as the Wildcats built a 20 point lead and cruised to a 67-50 victory at Brogden Hall on Tuesday night.  The loss was Hoggard’s fourth in a row and seventh in nine games.  Lawson Ahrens led the Vikings with 15 points.

 

New Hanover (11-6, 4-1) made 16 of their 21 first half shot attempts and three of four behind the arc as they built leads of 18-5 after the first quarter and 36-16 at halftime.  Hoggard (8-9, 1-4) was able to get on track offensively in the second half but never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

 

Darius Plummer had 12 points, five rebounds, and four steals for Hoggard while Stilman White scored 11 points in his first game since December 23rd.  White, the Vikings leading scorer, missed the last eight games with an injury.

 

The Hoggard JV’s had their four game winning streak snapped in a 57-45 loss to New Hanover.  Mike Williams led the Vikings with 15 points.  Hoggard (7-6, 4-1) is still tied for first in the Mideastern Conference JV standings at the midway point of the season.
