Hoggard beats Ashley for fifth straight win

WILMINGTON, NC - Senior guard Tyler Thayer scored 19 points to lead Hoggard to a
70-55 win over Ashley on Friday night at James Hebbe Gym. The Vikings have now won
five straight and 10 of their last 11 games. Hoggard also remained in a first-place
tie with New Hanover in the Mideastern Conference heading into their showdown at
Brogden Hall on Tuesday night.
Hoggard (13-3, 4-0) jumped out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter and stretched
it to 37-23 at halftime. The Vikings struggled from the floor in the third quarter,
but still held on to a double digit lead that they maintained throughout most of
the second half.
Junior guard Joe O’Donnell added 18 points and six assists while sophomore forward
Trevor Singleton had nine points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists.
Hoggard outrebounded Ashley 37-23 and had 14 assists on their 23 field goals. The
Eagles (9-7, 1-3) had just five assists and turned the ball over 16 times.
Earlier in the evening, the Hoggard JV team blew an 11 point fourth quarter lead
and lost 52-49 at Ashley.
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday against New Hanover. The JV game will
tip off at 6:00 at Hoggard while the Varsity game will be at 7:30 at New Hanover.
